Funds raised benefit the DSO’s community and outreach programs

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League’s A Noteworthy Night was held on March 5 in the home of Symphony Patrons Penny Reid and Thomas Nolan. It was an evening  with libations, cuisine and an intimate conversation with Gemma New, the DSO’s Principal Guest Conductor. Young Strings musicians played selections as guests arrived.

The Honorary Chair was Doris Jacobs with daughters Kim Jacobs Calloway and Teffy Jacobs in attendance. Dorothea Meltzer and Elizabeth Rois-Mendez co-chaired the event. Kim Brannon is the DSOL President.

New Zealand-born Gemma New is a leader among the new generation of conductors. She was in town for the DSO’s weekend of concerts and accepted the invitation to be interviewed by Kim Noltemy, the DSO Ross Perot President & CEO. The evening provided an intimate  insight into the work and life of the young female conductor. Besides her current role with the DSO, she is currently Music Director of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and Resident Conductor of the St. Louis Youth Orchestra.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the Dallas Symphony Association and its education and community outreach programs. Some of the quality outreach programs the League supports are: Cecil and Ida Green Youth Concerts, Family Concerts, Symphony Yes!, DSO Kids.com, Young Musicians, and Young Strings.
