Mother’s Day Dinner & Spring Concert
Event Will Feature Guest Organist Bradley Welch and Include Silent Auction, Buffet Dinner, Concert and Dessert Reception
Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra will celebrate the end of the season in style with a Mother’s Day Dinner & Spring Concert at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The evening will include a buffet dinner and silent auction before the concert with post-concert dessert reception, sponsored by the GDYO Guild.
Honorary Chairs for the event are Linda and Pat Rayes who have been long time supporters of GDYO since the organization’s earliest days. Mr. Rayes served as a past officer and board member who championed the organization during tumultuous years. He has been committed to GDYO since that time and is being honored at this year’s gala.
The event is chaired by Wilma May. Doug Haloftis is President of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.
Scott Cantrell, freelance classical music critic with The Dallas Morning News, will be the guest speaker.
The world-renowned Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra had a full season of concerts during the 2017-2018 season. Scott Cantrell has said that “Dallas should be proud to have such ambassadors” and “...lucky are these kids to be initiated into symphonic music in so professional an environment. Even the ones who don’t go on to performing careers will be passionate and knowledgeable and demanding audiences of tomorrow.”
The event celebrates GDYO families and patrons and raises critical funding to grow and support music education and performance opportunities for the talented and dedicated area youth. Each season, GDYO serves more than 450 musicians, ages 6-18, from more than 50 communities in Dallas and North Texas.
About the Concert
The evening’s performance features the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Giangiulio, with guest organist, Bradley Welch performing Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani. The orchestra will also perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Passacaglia in C-minor as transcribed for orchestra by Respighi and Camile Saint-Saens powerful Symphony No. 3, the Organ Symphony where the orchestra will once again be joined by Bradley Welch on the famed Lay Family Organ.
Benefit
The funds raised from this event support the Scholarship Fund and International Tour Fund, allowing deserving students a chance to not only experience the GDYO program, but also to be further enriched by experiencing new cultures while traveling and performing with their peers. Each year, young musicians in GDYO receive $20,000 in scholarships, and that number doubles in a tour year.
Tickets
Individual tickets are $150 each or $250 per couple and includes dinner and concert ticket. Host Tables are available for a $1500 donation and includes a table for ten, preferred seating for the concert, and recognition in Spring program. Mother’s Day Dinner & Spring Concert tickets must be purchased in advance.
Concert tickets are $10-$40 and can be purchased on the GDYO website or by calling 214-528-7747. Tickets are available the night of the performance at the Meyerson Box Office. The Meyerson is located at 2301 Flora Street in Dallas.

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra was founded in 1972 by parents, educators, and members of the Dallas music community. In 46 years it has grown to include: The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, the Philharmonic, the Wind Symphony, the Sinfonietta, the Dallas String Ensemble, the Young Performers Orchestra, the Flute Choir, and the Jazz Institute.
The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra program offers training to 480 talented youth musicians, ages 8 to 18.
In addition to performing at the Meyerson the GDYO tours internationally which have included China, Germany and the Czech Republic.
The GDYO is funded in part by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, TACA, and the Texas Commission on the Arts, with funding from the State of Texas and the National Endowments for the Arts.
