Gecko Hardware in Lake Highlands was honored with the Live Local Award from the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce at their annual Business Awards Luncheon on August 25 at the Lakewood Country Club. All winners received an award and all finalists received a certificate of recognition presented by Congressman Jeb Hensarling. The award is given annually to recognize a small business/small business owner in East Dallas, who is a community leader who supports and gives back to the community.

Andrea Rideout accepted the award. “Every time a child hugs George, our mascot rooster, or someone buys plants for their first garden, we know we are on the right path,” said Rideout.

Gecko has won several awards including Best New Hardware Store in the Country.

The Business Awards winners are: Jeb Hensarling Business of the Year: Juliette Fowler Communities and White Rock YMCA. Chairman’s Award: Marci Novak. Entrepreneur of the Year: The T Shop – Lori Trent and Talulah Belle/HESS – Elizabeth Mast. Live Local Award: Gecko Hardware and Creative Arts Center of Dallas. R. S. Munger Business Pioneer Award: Gary Buckner, Stash Design. Lake & Garden District People’s Choice Business of the Year Award: My Lawn Mower & Me.
