Texans Can Academy - Dallas Oak Cliff students are gearing up to join the medical field. Ten students have been accepted to the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program through Mountain View College and are now dual enrolled in high school and college classes.

“At Texans Can Academies, students are given opportunities to change the trajectory of their life pathway,” says Texans Can Academy - Dallas Oak Cliff principal Cynthia Miles. “This program allows our students to begin their education and journey as leaders in the medical field while also earning their high school diploma.”

The program lasts for seven weeks and includes lectures, skills lab and clinic experience and is offered at no cost to the students. Students will attend classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Mountain View College where they learn in a state-of-the-art medical clinic environment. They will receive hands-on experience and training, such as learning how to record blood pressures, how to assist to ambulate using a transfer belt, as well as many other hands-on and work experience skills.

After completing the program, students will take a state test to receive their CNA certification, which will prepare them for a job as a CNA. CNAs provide basic patient care and typically work in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Texans Can Academies emphasize college ready and workforce ready skills so their students have successful plans after graduation.
