Merriman Anderson/Architects (MAA), a downtown Dallas headquartered architecture and planning firm, helped downtown residents, commuters and visitors ring in The First Day of Summer with a refreshing treat. MAA helped the people of downtown celebrate the start of the new season and cool down from the summer heat by passing out ice cream in front of their office, which is steps away from the DART Akard Station and next door to DART’s main offices. The First Day of Summer, also known as the June or Summer Solstice, is a day when spring has finally come to an end and the warmest part of the summer season begins. It is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the because it has the most hours of sunlight of the whole year.
MAA employees handed out small cups of ice cream, ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cones to everyone walking by their office from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A table was set up with ice chests keeping the treats frozen so that passers-by could enjoy an unexpected summer surprise. Those enjoying the ice cream included downtown workers on their lunch break, downtown residents who were walking by and tourists who were visiting Dallas and left with a sweet treat.
On February 17, 2018, Random Acts of Kindness Day, Merriman Anderson/Architects employees set up a table in front of their office to pass out warm breakfast tacos and coffee to downtown residents, commuters and visitors to help brighten people’s day and remind others to pass it forward. The response from people walking by was wonderful and the employees enjoyed helping people start their day on the right foot, so they decided to do something for the downtown residents and commuters nearby more than once this year.
