Merriman Anderson/Architects (MAA) projects, The Statler, Old Dallas Central Library, Dallas High School, Tower Petroleum, Corrigan Tower, Allen Building, and Mercantile Commerce Building, were all presented awards at the 19th annual Preservation Dallas Achievement Awards ceremony on May 16, 2018. MAA was the design architect and architect of record for each of these projects.

“We are proud to have been able to work on each of these significant historical renovation projects in downtown Dallas,” said Merriman Anderson/Architects Founder and President Jerry Merriman, AIA. “Our firm appreciates and strongly supports the mission of Preservation Dallas, and we are very grateful they recognized these grand buildings.” Combined, these projects represent 740 residential units, 700 hotel rooms, 15 retail/restaurant venues and 300,000 square-feet of office space for the urban core of Downtown Dallas.

Preservation Dallas focuses on protecting the history and culture of Dallas neighborhoods and historic buildings throughout the city, enhancing the quality of life and economic development of Dallas. Each year Preservation Dallas hosts an Achievement Awards ceremony honoring Dallas’ outstanding residential and commercial historic preservation projects and the individuals who are committed to making Dallas a better place to live by promoting its architectural heritage.

?      The Statler is a historical renovation of a former 1,001-room luxury hotel built in 1956 into a Curio Collection Hotel and modern residences mid-century modern structure in downtown Dallas. It was recently inducted as the 300th hotel into the Historic Hotels of America.

?      Old Dallas Central Library is The Statler’s neighbor. The pair occupy an entire city block and are considered one of the best examples of mid-century architecture in the region.

?      Dallas High School is a historic renovation of a 102,000 square-foot, four-story structure for Class A office use.

?      The Tower Petroleum project involved the renovation of a 1933 office tower into a Cambria hotel.

?      Corrigan Tower was the transformation of an 18-story, mid-century modern tower in downtown to a 150-unit apartment building.

?      Built in 1926 as a hotel, The Allen Building was renovated into a 176-room Hampton Inn & Suites.

?      Lastly, the former Mercantile Commerce Building was revamped from a 1957 office building into a 209-room Marriott Residence Inn and AC Hotel in downtown.

MAA has won a total of 16 Preservation Dallas awards over the years including the seven awarded this year. With iconic projects such as these and many others, Merriman Anderson/Architects is an industry leader in its diverse scope of projects including corporate office headquarters, mixed-use master planned developments, high density housing, and historic renovation. Other noteworthy projects include Grandscape Lifestyle Center in The Colony, The Centrum, and THE DREVER.
