Former Texans Can Academies Board Chair Gives Back to Students

Delia Jasso, former Board Chair for Texans Can Academies, has been honored with the school naming a scholarship fund after her. Jasso served on the Board of Trustees for Texans Can Academies for more than ten years and was the Chair of the Board for nine years. While serving as the Board Chair, she was also a Dallas City Council elected representative for eight years serving District 1.

The Board of Trustees, a group of dedicated and talented volunteers, governs the 13 Texans Can Academies campuses across the state of Texas. These community leaders volunteer their time to lend their support and resources to help the high schools in their mission to provide the highest quality education for all students, especially those who have struggled in a traditional high school setting.

Delia Jasso graciously agreed to kick-off a scholarship campaign with the staff of Texans Can Academies to help bring awareness to the Delia Jasso Texans Can Academies Scholarship Fund. Along with Texans Can staff members, she has visited all 13 campuses to explain the scholarship program to the schools’ employees. Each year, the scholarship fund is awarded to senior students among each of Texans Can Academies’ 13 public high schools of choice.

Last year, the staff generously donated $12,357 to the fund and was able to award 24 scholarships to their graduating seniors.

The United States now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries in graduation rates. Every year, more than 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the U.S., which equates to an average of 7,000 youth a day that lose hope and leave high school.

Texans Can Academies provide hope to all high school students who want to attend school, learn and earn their high school diplomas. To date, more than 141,120 students have changed their lives and the lives of their families through their education experience with Texans Can Academies.
