The Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas’ Latinas in Progress (LIP) Education Series has come to Texans Can Academy - Oak Cliff to expose senior high school Latinas to college life and helps prepare them for success in their personal and professional lives.
The LIP Education Series meets with the students on college campuses for every event and teaches them about applying to college and college life, ways to improve their writing skills, how to be more assertive, the importance of civic participation, health and wellness tips, other important life skills, and college campus safety.
This school year, students have visited Tarrant County College to learn about aviation studies and tour facilities; took a tour of the Southern Methodist University campus and attended a workshop about careers, admissions, and applications; and toured The University of Texas at Dallas campus.
Latinas in Progress™ (LIP) Education Series
Through the Latinas in Progress™ (LIP) Education Series, the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas, Fort Worth Chapter (HWNT-FW) aims to mentor senior high school Latinas throughout their college journey and equip them with the means to succeed in their personal and professional lives. The LIP Education Series consists of five learning sessions, volunteer opportunities, and mentoring.
The sessions are hosted at partner colleges and universities on one Saturday a month during the school year from September to February. LIP also offers the participants time with professional women who share their stories of overcoming adversity, achieving higher education, and their professional success. The sessions provide enriching learning experiences and access to opportunities, information, financial resources, and exposure to universities.
