Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District Unveils Multi-Million Dollar Renovation

Positioned within the heart of Houston’s world-renowned healthcare institutions at 6580 Fannin Street, the Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District announces the completion of a multi-million-dollar three-phase renovation of its lobby and restaurants that modernized and reimagined the hotel. Driven by the belief that a soothing environment has healing powers, the hotel embarked on a transformation of the lobby, restaurants, lounges, private function areas, and fitness club. Owned by Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc., the entire 398-room hotel is revitalized with upgraded interiors and services designed to support, refresh, and renew hotel guests.

Acclaimed international hospitality design firm, Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) San Francisco, redesigned the Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District with an innovative reconfiguration, dramatic upgrades in lighting and furnishings, and the addition of organic forms and colors found in nature. The design concept of “mindful comfort” is conveyed with unobstructed pathways and wider views, earthy colors, and an artful array of textures.

“The foremost intention of our design was to imbue this important hotel located within Houston’s esteemed Medical District with a modern update, tempered with all the nuances of making a space welcoming, warm, soothing and healing,” says HBA San Francisco Design Partner Meghann Day. “Nature is such a curative concept, and we achieved our mission by utilizing color and texture to strengthen the function and flow of the spaces.”

The hotel is enhanced with a fresh contemporary design including clean lines and lighting upgrades, giving the hotel lobby and registration areas a crisp and open new ambience. Natural light pours through the three-story atrium evoking a sense of restoration for guests. Lobby furnishings are a mix of contemporary styles creating inviting spaces for guests to work, relax, or connect with others within a variety of conversational seating groups.

The design elements organically lead guests through the first-floor space to the upper level and new exciting dining options. Travelers looking for a refreshing respite may enjoy casual dining throughout the day in the two new restaurants located on the second floor, Curate and Main & Green.

  • Curate by Chef Andreas Orta offers American Cuisine with a decidedly Texas flair and is open for cocktails, small plates, and dinner. Named after museum curators who select the finest choices for an exhibit, the restaurant’s design is modern posh with a mix of slate and alloy colors, and a contemporary bar that flows from afternoon to evening. On the menu, ingredients from locally sourced vendors are crafted into a tempting selection of shareable appetizers, stone oven pizzas, and salads. Draft beers, craft cocktails, and a full wine selection are all available.

  • Main & Green serves as a central meeting place in the Texas Medical Center where those who work in the area can join hotel guests enjoying breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and, as the name implies, the restaurant’s cuisine presents a healthy, modern twist on traditional favorites.

  • The Oak Room is an exclusive event space for meetings or social events located within Main & Green that accommodates parties of 10 to 30 people. The space features a private entrance and a built-in, large screen television for presentations and training.

In addition to the new dining outlets, the M Club is an exciting new addition to the property that delivers an elevated level of style and privacy for guests of the hotel. The sophisticated and inviting space is a private club sanctuary of upgraded services, with complimentary daily breakfast, bar service, evening hors d’oeuvres, dessert display, large screen televisions, banquette seating, and living room style seating. Casual seating for working or relaxing with snacks and beverages are available 24-hours a day to travelers enjoying the M Club.

The Fitness Center is crisp, fresh, and wrapped in natural light. Equipment includes a Peloton bike, treadmills, ellipticals, Stairmasters, free weights and benches, and ample padded flooring for stretching and toning. Guests also receive access to Fitness on Demand, with premium digital workout content. There is also an indoor heated pool and hot tub for those who swim for fitness and for those who want to splash and play year-round. A redesigned sun deck featuring lounge chairs, casual seating, cornhole, yard-size Jenga and patio lights completes the area as the perfect place for enjoying fresh air, sunlight, and relaxing.

“With the completion of our third and final phase of the hotel transformation, we are excited to showcase our hotel to travelers seeking to explore Houston,” said Jennifer Gohagan, General Manager of the Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District.  “Our public areas, restaurants, and bar have been mindfully transformed to invite guests in. The new M Club lounge is a competitive differentiator and provides our business and leisure guests 1,900 square feet to work, relax, and unwind.”
