Finding the right place to call home during retirement is about more than comfortable surroundings. It's about maintaining independence, staying active, and building meaningful relationships.

Woodland Cottages, a 55+ active independent senior living community with locations across Texas, is bringing this approach to North Texas with its recently opened community in Sherman. Featuring private, residential-style cottages and amenities designed to encourage social engagement, the community offers older adults the opportunity to enjoy independent living while staying connected to their neighbors.

As loneliness and social isolation continue to affect older adults nationwide, Woodland Cottages is emphasizing the importance of community and meaningful relationships. Research has linked social isolation among older adults to depression, cognitive decline, and other serious health concerns.

Across its Texas locations, Woodland Cottages is finding creative ways to foster these connections. In College Station, residents regularly spend time with Texas A&M University students, sharing stories, playing games, and forming friendships across generations. Meanwhile, in Belton, residents have developed a special bond with the Lake Belton High School volleyball team through spirited chair volleyball matches, even cheering on the students at their games.

These experiences highlight how simple activities can create lasting connections, encourage social engagement, and bring a renewed sense of purpose to everyday life.

With its newest location in Sherman, Woodland Cottages continues to expand its commitment to creating welcoming communities where older adults can enjoy independence, an active lifestyle, and opportunities to build meaningful friendships.
