Fifteen Dallas Can Academy students recently volunteered at a charity event for Dallas Pets Alive. The students who volunteered for this opportunity have over a 95 percent attendance rate and are dedicated to their academics as well as to serving the community. The students wanted a chance to volunteer with an organization that helps animals, so they chose Dallas Pets Alive.

The students were excited to help Dallas Pets Alive because of its mission to promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.  As pet lovers themselves, they wanted to help protect the dogs.

The 15 students and 3 Dallas Can staff members donated toys, treats and food for the dogs that they had collected at school.  During the volunteer day they played with the dogs, passed out information about Dallas Pets Alive and spoke to visitors who attended the event.

Rufus Johnson, assistant principal at Dallas Can Academy’s Oak Cliff campus said, “Volunteering is a great opportunity for the students to see their impact within our community. We hope to continue partnerships with other nonprofit organizations that the kids want to help.
