UP MUSTANGS WIN 3RD GRADE FLAG FOOTBALL PARK CITIES YMCA LEAGUE WITH UNDEFEATED 8-0 SEASON
The UP MUSTANGS 3rd grade flag football team scorched the competition this season by completing a perfect 8-0 season! The team often drew attention beyond the usual parents and siblings as it featured a sophisticated spread offense with audible check offs at the line of scrimmage and complex short and intermediate pass patterns akin to the college style of today . Loud cheering of support from the sidelines was the norm this season for the team.
"What is particularly satisfying is this team was actually formed by a group of parents whose boys were not originally asked to be on a team that some pretty competitive dads of their classmates formed thinking they were putting together a "dream Team". So in the spirit of old school competition we took our boys and coached them up to play an amped up, timing based offense and created multiple defensive sets that have made them the undefeated champions they are today said , UP resident and Coach Rodney Hand. "These boys have worked tremendously hard and have learned that to be successful, you not only have to pass and catch well but more importantly, you must focus mentally and be willing to go 100% every down no matter what your role. In short, they have learned to be a championship TEAM ....not individuals.... which I believe will help them in life beyond sports", added Hand.
Hand is joined in coaching the championship team by fellow UP resident and Co-Coach, Robert Shawver and UP dads Johnny Warren and George Koontz.
