The remarkable story of a Fort Worth Orphanage, The Masonic Home Mighty Mites, is depicted in Jim Dent’s “Twelve Mighty Orphans”. The Mighty Mites was a group of orphans, coached by the legendary Rusty Russell, who began with nothing and went on to win state championships in the 1930s and 1940s.  

This story is of a team of underdogs who never gave up and pushed through the many hardships. The Mighty Mites were typically outweighed by at least thirty pounds per man, but became the toughest team in Texas. 

The Mighty Mites story is a notable moment in sports history. This inspirational story of an orphanage and one of the greatest football teams in Texas history is a must read!
