The Highland Park Independent School District has announced its 2011-2012 Teachers of the Year.

Here is a list of the outstanding teachers:

• Erin Hukill (Armstrong Elementary, Explorations and Gifted Math)
• Kathleen Mahoney (Bradfield Elementary, Third Grade)
• Cindy Wittwer (Hyer Elementary, Fourth Grade)
• Lauren Golman (UP Elementary, Fourth Grade)
• Rina Almarez (McCulloch Intermediate, Sixth-Grade Science)
• Katherine Herron (HPMS, Spanish)
• Greg Bergeron (HPHS, Math/Academic Decathlon Assistant Coach)

Each teacher of the year will receive a $1,000 award from the HP Education Foundation and will get to drive a Volkswagen for free for one month courtesy of Boardwalk Park Cities Volkswagen.

In addition to the Teachers of the Year awards, Hyer Elementary receptionist Kandace Tanner is the winner of the John and Eileen Howie Community Service Award, and she will be given $5,000 for her dedication to community service.
