Despite the recent torrential downpour, the forecast looks clear for Saturday, which is when a free community event will be hosted in Highland Park Village to benefit a cancer support organization.

The Southern Social, which is a free concert series that will promote local music and food while raising money for charitable organizations, is hosting its first event at 6 p.m. on March 24 outside of the Billy Reid store in the shopping center to benefit the Cancer Support Community of Texas.

The musical acts performing at the event are 60's-pop group Destry and folksy band Fox and the Bird. Food will be provided by Sissy's Southern Kitchen & Bar, which is the latest concept from celebrity chef Lisa Garza, and the featured drink at the event will be Buffalo Trace, which is a bourbon whiskey.

Through the event is free, donations will be accepted to benefit the Cancer Support Community of Texas, which is an organization that offers support to people with cancer and their families and friends.
