HP vs. Pearce (Girls Varsity) Highland Park junior Kaitlyn Read dribbles the ball ahead of a Pearce player.

The Lady Scots varsity basketball team lost to the Pearce Lady Mustangs by a score of 54-55 on Tuesday at J.J. Pearce High School.

Highland Park was down by 15 points in the second quarter but rallied back and tied the score with 2:46 left to play in the game. But, the Lady Scots were ultimately defeated when the Lady Mustangs shot a buzzer-beater for the victory.

Despite the loss, Highland Park junior Kaitlyn Read scored 31 points for the Lady Scots, which was the most points any individual player scored for either team during the game. Read was followed in scoring by Highland Park junior Pypr Brueland with 6 points and senior Sydney McDaniel and sophomore Alex Reynolds with 5 points each.

The Lady Scots varsity squad now has a 14-5 record for the season and is 2-2 in district play. The team's next game is against McKinney North at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the HPHS main gym.
