Southern Methodist University proved its football program is continuing to move in the right direction after its 28-6 victory over Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama.

Three statistics about the game stand out in particular: First, the Mustangs did not allow Pitt to score a touchdown, holding them to only two field goals. Second, this was the second victory out of three consecutive bowl game appearances for SMU. Third, this bowl win was also SMU head coach June Jones' 100th collegiate victory as a coach.

The Mustangs finished the season with an 8-5 overall record and a 5-3 record in Conference USA games. Click here if you want to look back over the season's wins and losses.
