HPISD invites you to hear Alan November, one of the nation's foremost experts on the integration of Web technology in today's classroom. His session with parents will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18 in the HPHS auditorium.
HPISD is honored to have Mr. November as the keynote speaker for its Jan. 18 Staff Development Day. He will speak to the entire HPISD staff about "21st Century Leadership and Learning." Following his keynote address, Mr. November will lead breakout sessions with HPISD faculty groups from all grade levels and areas of specialization.
Here is a summary of what the session has to offer to parents:
Today's on-demand, anything goes, information-rich society emphasizes a vital need for advanced information processing skills. Unfortunately, too many students are not sure how to separate fact from fiction on the Internet, where any version of the truth is available to support almost any belief. We encourage a partnership between home and school where both teachers and parents unite in an effort to teach students how to read the "grammar" of the Internet and to apply strategies to validate information on a website. This workshop will provide step-by-step tips that can help students, their parents and their teachers collectively think more critically about Internet information.
