On Monday, July 5, Park Cities Boy Scout Troop 518 presented a float for the 4th Of July parade and helped welcome the delegation of Scout leaders from Saudi Arabia.   This is Troop 518's first year to participate in this event.  Led by Senior Patrol Leader, Luke Gardner, troop members assembled a float focusing on the Camping theme, featuring a tent, campfire, backpacking gear and buckets of candy.  Troop members and brothers Mason and Harrison Carr rode their rip sticks alongside the float to entertain the crowd.

Before the parade, the Troop enjoyed the opportunity to meet the Scout leaders visiting from Saudi Arabia.  In addition to posing for photos, the local Boy Scouts taught their visitors a couple of Texas words like “Y’all” and “Howdy.”

Troop 518 also took advantage of their position near front of the parade to have pictures taken with the Marines in sharp dress uniforms carrying the colors.

The parade ended after a 2 mile journey from Highland Park City Hall to Goar Park.  Then Troop Scout Master Mark Boozer and his scouts demonstrated Dutch oven cooking by producing mouth-watering apple and cherry cobblers.  Troop members provided samples of these treats to all visitors.

After learning the cooking technique, the Saudi scout leaders presented Mr. Boozer with a special Saudi Arabia pennant and scarf woggle to show their appreciation for his troop’s hospitality.

Assistant Scoutmaster Mason Hogan said “This event was a terrific opportunity for our boys to serve their community and demonstrate their Scout spirit.”

Troop 518 is sponsored by Park Cities Baptist Church.
