MATHEMATICS IN THE REAL WORLD
Presented by UCLA Professor of Mathematics, Dr. Andrea Bertozzi.
Mathematics is making increasingly important contributions in (and inroads into) fields outside its traditional domains of physics and engineering. Sophisticated mathematical models appear in fields as diverse as economics, biology and sociology. These models are often studied using advanced computational and analytical techniques. This talk showcases various ways in which mathematics is having an impact in real world applications. Dr. Andrea Bertozzi will focus on an array of timely topics such as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, crime hotspots, cooperative robotics, and swarming in biology.
