Troop 518 is proud to announce that troop member William O’Connell “Conner” Rambin has achieved Eagle Scout status.  He is the first Eagle Scout for the new troop, which is sponsored by Park Cities Baptist Church.

Conner, 14, is an incoming freshman at Highland Park High School. He began his scouting experience in the 4th grade when he joined the Cub Scout Pack at Hyer Elementary School. Since joining Boy Scouts in the 5th grade, Conner has served in various leadership capacities including Den Chief, Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader. To enhance his leadership skills, Conner completed the Oak Leaf Leadership Training and National Youth Leadership Training courses sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. In recognition of his leadership and service to others as well as his faith, Conner has been awarded the God & Country Award and was recently called to be a new member of the Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle Project, Conner chose to lead a team of volunteers to refurbish and complete a prayer garden for Interfaith Housing Coalition located in East Dallas.  Interfaith Housing Coalition is a non-profit organization which provides transitional housing, programs and services to help Dallas-area families dealing with poverty and homelessness.  It utilizes a holistic approach to help the families make enduring positive changes in their lives.

Conner and his team of volunteers spent more than 165 hours over two weekends renovating the neglected prayer garden.  After cleaning and removing debris and old fence posts on the first workday, the team installed a flagstone pathway, painted and installed a new iron trellis and power-washed the entire area.  The following weekend the team primed and painted the pergola and fence, planted new ground cover and installed a new water fountain.  Finishing touches included the placement of new patio furniture and the installation of colorful hanging plants.

In addition to Boy Scouts, Conner is an Honor Roll Student at his school where he is also a Member of the National Junior Honor Society.  Conner plays trombone for the Honor Concert and Jazz Bands, has participated in several school musical productions and played on the school football team.  Conner also enjoys baseball and piano and is active in his church youth group at Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he also sings in the youth choir.

Conner is the son of Neil and Nelene Rambin and the brother of Stephen Rambin, a sophomore at St.Mark’s School of Texas. Both Neil and Stephen are also Eagle Scouts.
