Dallas-based interior designer Kristin Mullen is thrilled to announce her retail shop, Curated by Kristin Mullen, will host Carol Pankratz as a featured artist. Pankratz’s Alchemy collection will be on display now through Thursday, December 15, 2016.

Alchemy, a 20-piece collection created throughout 2015 and 2016, offers a variety of paintings ranging from in size from six inches by six inches to 48 inches by 48 inches. With material and color palette in mind, Pankratz lets the layers of abstraction take shape, resulting in mixed media pieces with neutrals and muted shades of blue and green.

With a varied disciplinary background, Pankratz received her Master of Arts in Interior Architecture and Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from Kansas State University. Jobs in commercial and retail space planning, and experience with antique furniture restoration evolved into a passion for decorative arts where her broad knowledge within multiple mediums and her experience perfecting varied techniques has proved invaluable. Her work has been featured in multiple publications including Veranda, Dallas Home Design and British Homes & Gardens

“When I create new pieces, I begin thinking of ways I can change one raw surface into something of greater value,” said Pantratz.

Pankratz’s artwork is the perfect addition to the handpicked selections of home furnishings and accessories available at Curated. The contemporary, yet sophisticated pieces embody Mullen’s style, which is undoubtedly traditional with a twist – a balancing act of Eurasian, American, vintage, and modern, clean lined, yet comfortable.

“Carol’s passion lies in seeing personal space transformed through the use of color and pattern, and her background in interiors allows her to work a piece of art into a room,” said Kristin Mullen. “The pieces she creates are beautiful, unique and contemporary, allowing them to stand alone or to be grouped with other pieces. I’m honored to showcase her latest collection in the shop this month.”

C. C. Young, a premier, non-profit senior living community, is excited to announce its new 10-level, $84-million integrated transitional living center, The Vista, which is scheduled for completion by summer 2018.  Building on its mission to create an environment that values people of all ages by providing opportunities for personal growth and creativity, C. C. Young enlisted the help of Dallas’ D2 Architecture to bring its vision to life.

“The clear lines between levels of care in senior living are becoming more blurred than they have been in the past,” said Russell Crews, president and CEO of C. C. Young. “We are excited to break ground on this new integrated transitional living center that will allow us the flexibility to adapt our level of care to the changing market demands, while providing our residents with the support they need and amenities they desire.”

The 325,000-square-foot healthcare center, connecting to the existing Blanton Assisted Living building, is a new, forward-thinking concept in the Senior Living, Senior Care industry. Multiple functional residential spaces are designed for group activities, hobbies and personal time, while large assisted living apartments are uniquely designed to be more independent and foster a sense of autonomy. The new center will add 221 new residences which are adaptable for Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Rehabilitation and will establish C. C. Young as a market leader.

“The Vista is the most visible component of C. C. Young’s strategic master plan and will feature clean lines and crisp edges with a more forward-thinking and less traditional design, which fits in with where C. C. Young is going as a senior living community,” said Josh Williams, AIA, associate principal of D2 Architecture. “We chose natural colors in keeping with the park and existing buildings, as well as to create a sophisticated, calm environment throughout. The fresh, clean design will also be carried forward in the interior design of the residences and common areas.”

The building will be cut into the side of the hill, so D2 selected a darker brick base that appears to anchor it to the ground.  The predominant smooth cream-colored stucco façade creates continuity with other buildings on the campus, and architects selected a warmer color on the front elevation to begin introducing new colors on the campus. Shadows cast by the sunshades will give the building life and will also assist with energy efficiency.

In addition to its the state-of-the-art, flexible design concept, The Vista promotes green space and its natural surroundings with floor-to-ceiling windows that will afford incredible views of East Dallas, Flag Pole Hill and White Rock Lake. An abundance of new amenities also will be offered to enhance the lives of those on the C. C. Young campus including: inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation with an aquatic therapy center, grand hall, expanded dining venues, family rooms, a meditation chapel, an art gallery, gift shop, wood shop and multiple gardens, including a “Sky Garden” on the top level where skilled nursing rehabilitation is located.

“One of the most unique amenities at The Vista are the balconies located in each residence on the assisted living level, which is pretty much unheard of in senior living design,” Williams adds. “All of the units feature operable windows for ventilation, which we felt was important for the residents and staff.”

Other project partners include: Ziegler; Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors; RLG Consulting Engineers, Civil Engineer; SCOPOS Hospitality Group, Food Services Design; Talley & Associates, Inc., Landscape Architect; Faulkner Design Group, Interior Design; L.A. Fuess Partners, Structural Engineer; CCRD Consulting Engineers, MEP Engineers; Project Control; Masterplan Consultants; and CliftonLarsonAllen.
