Yes, you read that headline right! If this is the first time you are hearing about goat yoga, here is everything you need to know about this crazy, fun new fitness practice. It sounds like something I want to try! Who wouldn’t like to get their workout in with cute little goats?

How Did Anyone Come Up Goat Yoga?

Goat yoga actually began in Oregon. The animal-lover and entrepreneur behind the original goat yoga concept, Lainey Morse, began the mix of yoga and her animals in 2016. While living with goats on her farm, she realized how much relief and comfort they brought her during a hard time in her life. Initially, she opened up her farm only for what she dubbed as goat “happy hours,” where people came to her farm to love on the little animals for a while. Some time later, she was approached by a yoga instructor with the idea to combine the two. She gave it a try, and the idea for goat yoga eventually became a nationwide fitness trend!

The Goats Help Relieve Stress

Morse was going through divorce, depression, and a diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome when she began her goat happy hours. The reason she initially opened her goats up to the public was due to the stress relief and distraction they gave her from all that she was going through. She said that goats, especially the babies, love nothing more than cuddling up to people and being pet. She knew the profound impact they have had on her, and she wanted to share that experience with others.

Can I Do This in Dallas?

Is your curiosity piqued? Do you want to be climbed on and snuggled up to by tiny goats? Me too! Fortunately, we have a few options in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that offer goat yoga experiences.

t’s that time of the summer! Everyone is getting ready for school, and new high school grads are getting ready to leave home for the first time and move away to college. It can be crazy in the midst of all of the packing and shopping, but here are some miscellaneous things I know I wish I’d remembered to pack before I left home.

Sleep Mask

If it’s your freshman year, it’s likely you are going to be in a dorm room setup where you’re sharing your living space with a roommate. If you want to go to bed and they’re determined to study at their desk in the dorm, a sleep mask comes in handy to block out their light!

Earplugs

Earplugs also come in handy during a late night study session. Ear plugs are also super useful if you’re on a floor with people who can be a little inconsiderate at 2 a.m. You need your rest!

Bed Rest

These are the soft, supportive pillows that help you sit upright comfortably in bed if you need a break from sitting at your stiff desk. They’re also cozy if you want to read or catch up on your Netflix shows!

Smaller Mirror

If you’re a girl and you’re sharing a communal bathroom with the rest of your floor, odds are, the bathroom is going to get pretty crowded in the morning. I highly recommend getting a standalone mirror so you can sit at your desk and do your makeup – it was much easier for me!

Power Strips

If you are in an older dorm, you probably aren’t going to have many outlets to use. Power strips are super helpful! Look closely though at your dorm guidelines, as you may only be able to use the two-pronged ones because that’s all the outlet can handle.

Stain Remover

For many people, college is their first time to add laundry to their personal chore list, and knowing all the necessary components may be difficult. Sometimes laundry detergent just isn’t enough. I vividly remember doing laundry after spilling on a shirt of mine, and I realized I didn’t have any sort of stain remover. It was very inconvenient, to say the least, and I never got the mark out.

Do you have any other can’t-live-without items in your dorm room? Let us know in the comments!

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost August! It seems like it was just yesterday that we were excited about spring break. As we approach the end of summer, you may start feeling the slump knowing school is looming ahead for your kids. Here are some fun ideas to help make the most of the rest of their summertime:

Lots and Lots of Pool Days

When I was little, we went to the pool every other day! We’d pack some sandwiches, chips and sodas in the cooler and swim the afternoon away. This is especially fun with friends! If last week’s heat was any indication, we still have some scorching days ahead, perfect for splashing around in the pool.

Go to a Museum Downtown

Downtown Dallas and Fort Worth have several fun museum options, like the Perot Museum, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and Industry, and more. The Dallas World Aquarium is also a neat place for kids who are excited by animals, as is the Dallas Zoo.

Walk or Bike on a Nature Trail

If it’s not too hot, a bike ride is a perfect way to spend an afternoon and get some fresh air. Just bring some water and sunscreen, and you’re good to go!

Cooking Out

If the bugs are at bay, throw something tasty on the grill and eat outside – bonus points for fun yard games like cornhole and horseshoes!

Ice Cream After Dinner

It was always such a fun surprise after dinner when my parents would tell us to get our shoes on because we were getting some ice cream. Something as simple as an ice cream cone will make their evening, and the additional bonding time will be great for the entire family.

Going to the Library

I’m sure you’ve heard that kids lose a lot of what they learned the previous school year throughout the summer. By taking your kids to the library, they’ll have the chance to practice reading and continue to sharpen their reading and writing comprehension skills. I remember leaving the library in the summer with a stack of books I couldn’t wait to read.

Making a Picnic

Picnic in the park, anyone? This is such an easy change-up to a mundane summer afternoon. If it’s not crazy hot outside, pack up a basket and a big blanket and head to your favorite park.

Seeing a Movie

Movie theaters are nice and cool, which feels wonderful on 108-degree days. Christopher Robin and Dog Days are two family-friendly movies hitting the theaters this August.

What’s your favorite way to defeat the yearly summer slump?

A comedy club is a classic place to go on a night out if you want to be entertained. Despite the countless comedy specials on Netflix and other streaming services, people still love live comedy. There are quite a few comedy clubs across Dallas-Fort Worth, so if you’re looking to get out of the house for a night of entertainment, be sure to check out one of these comedy hot spots:

Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub

With three locations across DFW in Fort Worth, Dallas, and Plano, Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub is an awesome place to catch a show. There are a ton of comedians that perform there, and you can pick your show based on their style. If you’re feeling brave, stop by on Wednesdays, where you can join in on open-mic night. Thursday night shows are free! This is an awesome, popular comedy club that is definitely worth a visit soon.

Addison Improv Comedy Club

The Addison Improv Comedy Club has been around since 1963 – it’s an icon! With an array of different comedians and a full-service restaurant, this would be the perfect date night if you’re looking to do something different than your typical dinner-and-a-movie date. In Addison off of Belt Line Road, it’s a perfect location between the city and the suburbs for those who want a fun night out without too long of a drive home.

Dallas Comedy House

The Dallas Comedy House only opened in 2009, but it has already become a staple in the DFW area. With a variety of performers making their way through, you’ll have plenty of options when picking a show. Something else that makes this place unique is that they have classes for aspiring comedians. You never know – you may be the next Jerry Seinfeld!

Backdoor Comedy Club

The Backdoor Comedy Club has had a presence in Dallas for a while now in many different locations. Hailed by D Magazine as Dallas’ best comedy club, this need-to-see place is now located at the DoubleTree by Hilton downtown. It was originally brought to life by two incredible comediennes and is sure to entertain!

Don’t forget to do a little research before you go! These comedy clubs offer a variety of comedic styles and even a few opportunities to show off your own abilities onstage! If you’re thinking you want to bring your kids along, there are occasionally “all-age” shows, but many are for adults only; be sure to check prior to your selected show.

If you are someone (like me) who can eat Tex-Mex at any time of day, you should probably know of a few places that make awesome breakfast tacos. Thankfully, we have some pretty great options in the DFW area, so make sure to visit some of these places this summer when you need a breakfast taco fix.

Mariana’s Taco Shop

Mariana’s Taco Shop in Frisco is as authentic as you can get! It is high-quality Mexican food that you know is fresh and delicious. Their all-day menu is expansive, but the breakfast taco options alone are impressive. You can have tacos with bacon, chorizo, eggs, and beans. There is also a huevos rancheros option and several burrito choices if you are looking for something a little heartier.

Crush Taco

Crush Taco is now serving breakfast tacos! This restaurant is also in Frisco and is located off Dallas Parkway. They already specialized in delicious gourmet tacos – now they have added breakfast tacos to the mix. Crush opened their first and only location in 2016 and have received rave reviews since then. This place cannot be recommended enough!

Daddy’s Tacos

Daddy’s Tacos in McKinney is another great option for a savory breakfast taco. They have a menu with premade taco and burrito options, but you can also make your own if you prefer. Their location in McKinney is their first, and they have become a staple in the town. Definitely check them out!

Rusty Taco

Rusty Taco originated in downtown Dallas, and they now have 14 locations across the state. In the Dallas-Fort Worth region, there are three in Dallas proper, two in Fort Worth, one in Denton, one in Hurst, and one in Plano. It is a chain, but if you are looking for an exceptional taco, this place does not disappoint. There are eight different breakfast tacos that are all great!

Torchy’s Tacos

This classic Austin, TX chain practically needs no introduction; it offers what are easily some of the best tacos around, breakfast and otherwise. There are 13 locations in the Metroplex, and they’re a classic place to start your day.

Living in an area like DFW, we have a lot of options for delicious Tex-Mex. We’re lucky! Let us know your favorite breakfast taco spot in the comments!

Have you visited Flix Brewhouse yet? Because if you haven’t, you’re missing out big time! At Flix Brewhouse, you can watch the latest film releases while enjoying tasty food and sipping their in-house brewed beer. Flix just opened its first DFW location in Frisco and is expanding to Mansfield, with the second location projected to open in early 2019.

What makes this place so special is that they are the first Cinema Brewery in the United States, with an award-winning beer selection. There are six different kinds to choose from, and all of them compliment Flix’s eclectic menu, which goes far beyond your typical popcorn and nacho theater selection. There are classic appetizers like spicy fried pickles, wings, tacos, chips and queso, and mozzarella sticks – those are just starters!

Their pizza and burgers offer solid movie-snacking options, and for those who want to eat lighter, there are several salad and wrap options. This place is definitely a sweet-tooth’s friend, which can be fantastic or very, very bad. Like cream cheese-filled pretzels, build-your-own milkshakes, brownies, cookies, cakes, and cobbler bad.

You would think the idea of a restaurant combined with a movie theater wouldn’t meld well; that it would be loud, noisy, and would detract from watching the film. But at Flix Brewhouse, they do it so seamlessly. Creating a comfortable, casual environment, the waiters are there the second you need them and could not be less distracting.

If you have a movie you’ve been meaning to see, don’t go to an average theater – make an evening out of it this time and see Flix Brewhouse for yourself!

Flix Brewhouse is located at 1660 FM 423 in Frisco.

Going out in the summertime is always fun, especially in a city like Dallas. There are plenty of rooftop bar options where you can sip a cocktail and catch a light summer breeze as the sun goes down. Here are some of our favorite rooftop bars across the city for you to add to your list:

HG Supply Co. is an incredible option for a rooftop/outdoor experience. There are two locations, with one in Dallas and one in Fort Worth. If you’re searching for a large outdoor space and great downtown views, you should definitely head to this bar. On top of the space itself, the food is fantastic. They pride themselves on using clean and simple ingredients on their menu. Order a great drink and an appetizer and look out onto the Dallas skyline.

Not only is Stirr a bar with refreshing drinks and delicious food, it is hands down the coolest looking place in terms of decor. It has mid-century modern style vibes with black and white tile on the wall and the front of the bar, plus awesome furniture and light fixtures. It's worth visiting for the atmosphere alone! The upstairs rooftop bar has plenty of seating and good views. As far as their menu goes, Stirr offers a variety of tasty American-inspired options for both dinner and drink.

Soda Bar at NYLO Dallas South Side is a must as far as rooftop bars are concerned. Located at the stylish NYLO Hotel in Dallas’ Cedars neighborhood, there is a large rooftop bar, an infinity pool, and some truly incomparable city views.

The Quarter Bar has an awesome patio to enjoy a drink in the evening. It got its name referencing the French Quarter, so there's an underlying New Orleans theme throughout the menu. For a solid patio option and elevated, tasty bar food, The Quarter Bar is the place to visit.

When school is out for summer, it's more important than ever to encourage your children to read and keep their minds engaged. Sometimes that can be hard when there are so many other fun things to do! In Texas, we have quite a few days in the season where we are encouraged to not be outside for too long because of the heat. It can be so easy to turn on the TV, but with great reading choices like these, your kiddos will find they enjoy books!

For your younger kids, here's a great option that you can either read aloud to them, or they can practice their developing reading skills. Dragons Love Tacos is a cute story about a sweet dragon with a favorite snack he just can't get enough of! Written by Adam Rubin and illustrated by Daniel Salmieri, your child is sure to love this hilarious story, and you might be making tacos for dinner.

The second is probably for older kids in terms of reading level, but it is sure to be special if you have a dog — specifically a golden retriever! The Ranger in Time series by Kate Messner chronicles the adventures of a search-and-rescue dog named Ranger that travels to historic periods of time to help people. It has eight installations and offers valuable reading practice that also teaches history.

The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer is also an enthralling series for this reading level. It surrounds two siblings as they fall into a fantastical world and encounter some familiar characters you have probably heard of from age-old fairy tales. Think Mother Goose, Sleeping Beauty, Captain Hook, and more. There are six installations, but another series that seems to combine those two above titles is the classic Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. You have the magical element combined with true historical events. I remember sitting outside reading for hours when I was a kid; I loved those books! Plus, there are quite a few of them, so odds are your child will be reading them long past summertime.

The last suggestion that is recommended for ages 8-12 is the Stuart Gibbs’ Moon Base Alpha series. It surrounds young, middle school-aged kids that live on the moon, and there are a series of mysterious deaths aboard the base that they take upon themselves to investigate. If you have a child that’s interested in space, there are three books to enjoy!

It's summertime in Texas. One thing's for sure: when it gets to be mid-season, there are some days where it's just plain miserable. But, there are fun ways to make these extremely hot days go by a whole lot quicker. The best part? You don't even have to leave the Dallas area to do it. Here are five ways to beat the heat this summer of 2018:

Spending a day at the lake.

In the Dallas area, there are several incredible lakes that you and your family can easily go to for the day. The first is Lake Grapevine in Grapevine, Texas, which has eight parks spread around it to go to. At this lake, you can swim, boat, rent canoes, camp under the stars, fish, and even rent a cabin.

Lake Ray Roberts is the second, located in Pilot Point. This is also a beautiful lake with great beaches and similar amenities, including the fantastic Lone Star Lodge where you can stay for a night or two.

Lake Lewisville is another popular lake destination in Dallas. With 15 parks, you are definitely not short of choices to park yourselves for the afternoon. There are a ton of options to spend the day on the water, as well as six campsites, three golf courses, and plenty of places to eat.

Watching the World Cup at a sports bar.

People everywhere are talking about the FIFA World Cup. How their teams are doing, who's playing when, and their predictions about who's going to win. How fun would it be to spend an afternoon game in an air-conditioned sports bar? Take advantage and hang with your fellow fans, eat delicious game day food, and, if of-age, drink a beer or two!

Touring a Dallas-based brewery.

Once again, if you are of-age, Dallas has a fantastic beer scene. A fun way to spend an afternoon if you're interested in how beer is made is touring a brewery. It's a fascinating process, and more often than not, you'll have an opportunity to sample some. Check out Community Beer Co.Deep Ellum Brewing Company, and Four Corners Brewing Co., to name a few.

Ice cream! And other cold, sweet treats.

When I was little, my best memories of summer often involved ice cream at some point. There's no better way to unwind and cool down than with something sweet. There are also a lot of unique places in DFW, like the nostalgic Highland Park Soda FountainSteel City Pops for awesome popsicles, and the Snow Cone Lady.

Cook out with friends and family.

This is especially fun if you have a pool. Otherwise, it's just as fun with margaritas, barbecue, and good company. Use the heat as an excuse to spend time with great people in your life.

How will you beat the heat this summer? Give us your recommendations in the comments!
