Join Good Local Markets for the annual Summer Homesteading Workshop Series which includes instruction from the markets own culinary artisans and craftsmen. The 2016 line-up includes jams, pickles, bath bombs, herbal remedies, refreshing salsas, woven wall hangings and scented candles.  Classes take place The Mix Co-working Space (1450 Old Gate Lane) and Makers Connect (10242 Northwest Highway)

Judy Cortinas from popular GLM vendor Yims Foods teaches the hand’s on Jamming and Canning Class in a two part series June 20th and July 9th.  Students will utilize summer’s bounty making their own peach and blueberry preserves and different canning methods for pickling.  Courses include recipes and take home preserves and pickles ($40 each, The Mix).

On July 10th, join Chris Unruh at Maker’s Connect for an afternoon of mixology and kitchen witchery that results in fizzy bath bombs.  Students will mix and mold the popular bath phenomena and blend natural oils to create custom scents for take home bath bombs ($30, Makers Connect).

Wolfsong Farm’s, John Wolf blends and brews homegrown herbs into tasty teas and soothing home remedies for a natural approach to common ailments on July 16.  Workshop attendees will create their own recipe blends and learn the health benefits of herbal healing ($30, The Mix).

Learn basic stitch tips, tricks and skills to create a woven wall hanging with Ronda Van Dyk from Shabby Sheep in a two part instructional workshop July 30 and August 2.  Using a recycled cardboard loom and colorful yarns, attendees express their inner hippie from start to finish with instruction on added texture, fringe and dowels ($60 for both sessions, The Mix).

Creative tomato salsas and summer salads with ingredients from Good Local Markets are the focus July 23 with Patricia Lepe from Merlin's Baking and Catering. Take home recipes and creations from class ($40, The Mix).

On August 7, Shelley Travell of Dylan Candles shares her candle expertise utilizing all-natural, hand poured candles with essential oils for a hands-on candle making class at Maker’s Connect ($35, Makers Connect).

 All workshops are help from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  For more information and to register online, go to www.GoodLocalMarkets.org.  All ages welcome, children need to be accompanied by an adult.  Sign up for all or just one class.  All class package is just $220.

Good Local Markets operates two farmer’s markets in Dallas and includes only local growers and makers.  The Lakeside Market is on every Saturday of the month at Lakeside Baptist Church (9150 Garland Road).  The Vickery Meadow Market is from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. every Sunday at Half-Price Books (5803 E. Northwest Highway).
