Good Local Markets and Texas Worm Ranch’s Heather Rinaldi pair-up for “Hands-On Hugelkultur” to be held Saturday May 16, from 9-11am at White Rock Local Garden (10226 Galway Drive).

Learn to create nutrient rich gardens in this hand-on, in-depth class as we build a hugelkultur bed for the community garden.  The German word for gardening, hugelkultur is a sustainable gardening method utilizing decomposing wood to convert waste to food.  As the wood decomposes, it acts as a sponge for moisture and a home bed for beneficial soil microbes that improve garden productivity.  The result is a sustainable and productive garden for years to come.

Cost is $20 per person and children under 16 are free.  Snacks and drinks are provided as well as a $5 token to Good Local Markets.  Proceeds benefit White Rock Local Gardens.  To register online, go to Workshops at www.GoodLocalMarkets.org

Good Local Markets operates three farmer’s markets in Dallas and includes only local growers and makers.  The Lakeside Market is on the first and third Saturday of the month at Lakeside Baptist Church (9150 Garland Road), White Rock Market is the second and fourth Saturday at Green Spot Market and Fuels (702 N. Buckner Blvd.) from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.  The Vickery Meadow Market is from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. every Sunday at Half-Price Books (5803 E. Northwest Highway).
