LITTLE MERMAID, Jr.
Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR., adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first she'll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking. 

In this program, concentration is on Broadway style dance training and singing skills taught by a DSM Academy choreographer and music director. A stage director will teach acting skills. All performances are open to the public and free, so invite the neighborhood! No theatrical experience is necessary to participate. Most costumes and props will be supplied by DSM Academy and some may be borrowed from home. Join us and let the kids learn the skills and confidence that belong in the spotlight!

 

IMPROV FOR THE ACTOR
This course is designed to help the actor think on their feet, to problem solve, to react honestly to the moment and to respond to one’s immediate environment and feelings. Students of improvisation techniques experience an increase in confidence, social comfort (on and off the stage), refined brainstorming abilities, improved decision-making tools and better team skills. The result of this program is often new thought patterns and ways to act and react.

Instructor, Steven Kavner, is the Peabody Award winning Producer of the PBS series, Wishbone, and a former member of the famous improvisational company The Groundlings. Steven has taught at the acclaimed Stella Adler Academy in LA as well as his own studio, Improv for the Actor. Improvisational skills are not only a requirement of a successful actor, but also a requirement of many university majors unrelated to the theatre.

Join us and look at the situation around you differently. The program ends with public performances on May 17 & 18, 2014 in the Uptown Theater Cabaret, Grand Prairie.

BROADWAY BOUND
Students explore and perform a variety of Broadway shows and styles.
A choreographer/director is joined by a music director to hone acting, singing and dancing skills. This class will perform at area special events throughout the year. Students and parents may select which performances to be involved in. This is an ongoing performance troupe with an annual membership fee. Students may attend either or both the Thursday and Saturday classes for additional fees.
