  eligible community members. Registration in advance is suggested but not
  required.  \nEvery three seconds\, someone in the U.S. needs blood for li
 fesaving treatments including surgeries\, trauma recovery and cancer care.
  Although 4.5 million lives are saved each year through blood transfusions
 \, only about 3 percent of eligible people donate. Just one donation can h
 elp save lives—and it starts with you. \nTo donate you must be in good hea
 lth\, at least 16 years old\, weigh 110 pounds or more\, and feel well on
  the day of your donation. Sixteen-year-old donors must bring a signed par
 ental consent form—parental consent is not required for ages 17 and older.
