Don't laugh! You will be amazed at the results! Not having the ham in the oven frees up a lot of space during the holidays, so I prefer to cook my ham in the crockpot. I typically make this the week before a holiday so that we have something at all times for meals. You'd be amazed at how far I can make a ham go.
Ingredients
- 1-½ pineapple juice
- ¼ cup of blackstrap molasses
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cloves
- 8-10 lb. bone-in ham (you can also use a spiral cut but I prefer whole. Read my note)
In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Have enough on hand to make a second batch if needed.
Place ham in the crockpot. I typically buy mine whole and cut deep (2-3 inches) crisscross slits.
Take half of the mixture and pour it over, making sure to get it in the slits.
I put it on in the morning and cook all day on low. 4-5 hours is perfect, but I just leave it all day. Baste every hour or so.
NOTE: When I remove the ham from the crockpot, I chop it up — almost like fall apart meat — so this is why I don’t get a sliced ham. I put it on an oven-safe platter, put just a little baste on it and put it under the broiler to brown the top.
