SCOTS FINISH SECOND IN 2017 UNION SQUARE BULLDOG BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Highland Park Men’s Basketball Team finished 2nd again this year in the 2017 Union Square Bulldog Basketball Tournament in Burkburnett, TX.. This year’s team looked well-positioned to bring home the championship trophy after defeating a tough Plainview High School team on Thursday night to start the tournament with a convincing win. The Scots won the game but lost Michael McMonigle to injury after he fell hard late in the game injuring his head and hip. The next morning the Scots again came out strong and easily handled the team from Lubbock Monterrey High School but lost two more key players in the game when Preston Landes went down with a bruised tailbone and Cade Wagner was rushed to the hospital with a broken nose. The Scots were left with only 6 players for Friday night’s game against host and defending champion Burkburnett High School. After trailing by 1 at half time the Scots rallied in the 3rd quarter behind hot shooting by Reilly Seebold and pulled away from the Bulldogs in the 2nd half.

3 straight wins set the Scots up in the championship game matchup against local favorite Wichita Falls Rider on Saturday afternoon. Will Enzor was unavailable for the 1st half of the game. The Scots started the opening tip with only 5 players and missing 4 of the regular starters. Will Enzor did return in the 2nd half and helped the Scots fight back fiercely but the shorthanded Scots were unable to overcome Rider’s hot shooting and considerable size advantage.

Alex Staffaroni and Will Enzor were named to the All Tournament Team.

The Scots are now 9-3 on the season and face St. Mark’s at home on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:30.
