Philip Brewer, Assistant Vice President, Comerica Bank, serves as the Chair of the 2013 Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament and leads a dedicated committee of board members and volunteers.

Dallas business leaders and golf enthusiasts will join the 28th Annual Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament, scheduled for Monday, April 22, at the Dallas Athletic Club. The tournament has proven to be one of the highlights of the local golf tournament season, with proceeds benefitting the Arthritis Foundation, South Central Region. The Arthritis Foundation, South Central Region serves those living with arthritis, including 4 million Texans, 820,000 Oklahomans and 372,000 people in New Mexico.

Philip Brewer, Assistant Vice President of Comerica Bank, serves as the Chair of the 2013 Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament and leads a dedicated committee of board members and volunteers including Allan Abramowitz, Ryan Gummer, Bill Huff, Mary Hussian-Clark, Cyndi Jansky, Dave Patzwald, Nita Pipkins, and Jeff Tyree.

The Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament generates awareness about the seriousness of the disease that affects more than 1.8 million people in North Texas and raises funds to support mission-driven programs. Last year, the tournament raised more than $100,000 to fund novel research projects to find a cure, community outreach programs for those who have this disease, and supported the Foundation’s advocacy efforts.

“The Arthritis Foundation and the Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament also celebrates medical and technological victories in the area of total joint replacement,” said Brewer. “More than 725,000 total joint replacements are performed each year. Remarkable strides are being made every day in the treatment of arthritis, and the 2013 Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament recognizes those individuals with total joint replacements, as well as all North Texans with arthritis, in their winning battle against this disease.”

This year’s tournament is a foursome scramble with registration beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch and a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. There will be a post-tournament banquet for the players, emceed by KDFW-TV FOX 4 Sports Anchor Mike Doocy. Golfers will also have an opportunity to participate in silent and live auctions featuring many items donated by local merchants, as well as unique sports merchandise.

Tournament participants and supporters will also have an opportunity to win a raffle prize at the 2013 event. This year, one lucky raffle winner and two guests will play one round of golf at the exclusively private Vaquero Golf Club, hosted by PGA pro and NBC Sports and Golf Channel commentator Notah Begay III. This special golf outing will be followed by dinner hosted by The Honorable Laura Wheat and her husband Doug at their beautiful Vaquero estate in Westlake, Texas. As part of this raffle package, spouses will be invited to join the players for the festive post-golf dinner with the Mayor and her husband.   Advance raffle tickets are on sale now, and only 200 will be sold. The winning ticket will be drawn and announced at the 2013 Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament on April 22. The raffle winner will not need to be present to win and will be notified by phone or email.

Individual Swing Against Arthritis Golf Tournament Player tickets are $300. Sponsorships are available at various levels. Interested players and foursomes of men, women and co-ed teams are invited to join their family, friends and playing partners for a fabulous day of fun, festivities and fundraising for the Arthritis Foundation.
