Steve Mace, spokesman for the City of University Park, sent a press release Thursday morning notifying that a "juvenile male resident" recently tested positive for West Nile fever, according to Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS).

The City said the victim is a resident of the north-central area of University Park, in the 75225 zip code. His name and age are not being released. Mace said the young man is experiencing flu-like symptoms but has not been hospitalized.

Ground spraying occurred overnight (July 31) "in the vicinity of the victim's address," the City said, upon learning about the positive test from DCHHS.

Residents are reminded to take precautions including the elimination of standing water (a breeding ground for mosquitoes) and wearing long sleeves and pants while outside at dusk and dawn.
