Saturday mornings are usually pretty mellow in our household, but this weekend was different. Instead of jammie day till noon, we got up early, had breakfast at the Flying Fish and cruised out to the Bowlmor Dallas bowling alley in Addison. Anyone that knows me knows that bowling is not my gig, but my little one has been intrigued with the game, so I figured we would get it over with early and get some kid bonus points!

As we got in the car to go back home, my son remembered Robbins Brothers, the engagement ring jewelry store on Dallas North Tollway. “Can we go to the jewel store now?” he said.

Every time we cruise up and down Dallas North Tollway, my six-year-old, Jack, points out the Robbins Brothers jewelry store. It helps that they have a 10 foot x 10 foot engagement ring plastered on the side of the building as well as a giant diamond ring in their lobby. Jack thinks the store is loaded with treasures that he needs for his pirate treasure chest.

So, we stopped. The first thing I did was tell the receptionist to cancel the salesperson because we were not there to buy anything. I explained that Jack was just looking for jewels, diamonds and gems for his “treasure chest” and that my husband and I had just brought him so he could browse for fun. She completely understood, and she — as well as several other sales reps — stood by and watched as Jack went up and down the floor from case to case, several times.

He was in treasure heaven. Just when we thought Jack’s day couldn’t have gotten better, he found the master jeweler perfecting a piece of jewelry. Jack plopped up on a chair and watched him in awe.

Then, a Robbins Brothers employee, Khoa Truong, brought out a small bag of cubic zirconia and presented them to Jack — his very own pirate booty. Our six-year-old was ecstatic! We were absolutely floored at Khoa's kindness and thoughtfulness.

The employees at Robbins Brothers exemplified what I think so many people are lacking — the ability to give freely and be kind without expecting anything in return. They knew from the very beginning that we weren’t there to buy, but they were patient and sweet because they saw how much it meant to Jack.

It just shows that acting with class and kindness never goes out of style. The folks at Robbins Brothers did not ask me to write this story or have any idea that I was the publisher at BubbleLife.com. I will personally say that anyone who is in the market for an engagement ring should put Robbins Brothers on their list. They will treat you well.
