The alliance between Texas Health Resources and Cancer Support Community North Texas will create one of the most comprehensive cancer care networks in North Texas.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas broke ground on a new 49,000-square-foot comprehensive cancer center scheduled to open in August 2014. The center will provide patients with clinical services including chemotherapy, radiation, an outpatient pharmacy, imaging and a teaching kitchen to provide dietary education.

Thanks to a generous donation from Cambridge Mindful Living Foundation, additional space will house Cancer Support Community North Texas, offering expanded social and emotional support services, a children’s program, educational seminars and lectures, activities such as yoga, Thai Chi, art therapy, and social events for anyone impacted by cancer — all free of charge. Cancer Support Community is currently open on the campus in temporary quarters until the new center is completed.

With the patient in mind, the center will also be connected to the hospital for easy access to additional services.

“Our goal is to provide our patients with compassionate cancer care and hope,” said Britt Berrett, Ph.D., president of Texas Health Dallas. “The new center as well as the alliance with Cancer Support Community will allow us to continue to care for the individual as well as the family.”

The alliance between Texas Health and Cancer Support Community is non-exclusive. Patients being treated at facilities other than Texas Health are welcome to take advantage of the services offered at all Cancer Support Community locations. There are currently Cancer Support Community “clubhouses” at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance and at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen soon to be relocated to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano.

“We are more than grateful to Texas Health and to Cambridge for their role in helping realize Cancer Support Community’s vision that no one has to face cancer alone,” said Mirchelle Louis, president and CEO of Cancer Support Community North Texas. “It is exciting to be a part of the new cancer center, and in the interim, we are offering all of our services and activities to cancer patients and their families and friends in our temporary home on the campus.”
