Lacrosse: Scots Avenge Last Season’s State Final

In what proved to be one of the best performances this season, the Highland Park Lacrosse D1 Scots defeated Jesuit 7 to 5 last Friday on Jesuit’s home turf. In a close game from the start, the Scots used a strong second half to outlast the Rangers. The Scots offense was crisp with only 12 turnovers, moving the ball with ease against a tough Jesuit defense. The Scots will likely see Jesuit again in the State playoffs coming up in May, but if this game was any indicator, HP is in a good position going forward.

Leading the way for the Scots was senior Captain John House and junior attackman Cooper Kneese with 2 goals apiece. Also contributing were junior, Paxton Alexander, with 1 goal and 1 assist; senior, Max Holsomback (1,0); senior, Conner Stone (1,0); and junior, Elliot Nelson (0,1). Senior, Kyle Massimilian won 9 of 14 face-offs with 7 ground balls, again putting the Scots in offensive position all night. Defensively the Scots displayed again why they are one of the toughest in the State, with Junior Cade Saustad, Junior Will Stern, and Sophomores Andrew Stanzel, and Camden Clark locking down the powerful Jesuit attack. Senior Chris Walker shut down Jesuit’s leading scorer, limiting him to just one goal on the night, and Senior Parker Alexander had a great game on midfield defense. Freshman Doak Walker had another great game in the goal, with a spectacular late-game save as Jesuit was trying to mount a comeback.

The Scots will celebrate Senior Night on Friday, April 28th, at Highlander when they take the field for the last home game of the season. Senior Night festivities will take place prior to the 7:30 game so arrive early. A win Friday will secure the #2 seed in the upcoming North District Playoffs. Come out and cheer for your Scots!
