The topic of garage sales will be discussed by the University Park City Council during its regular meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The spring and summer months see an increase in the amount of garage sales in the City, with about five to ten happening each weekend, according to the meeting's agenda.

The problem is that the City has regulations in its Code of Ordinances for garage sales, but most residents who have garage sales violate at least one of them.

During the meeting, the Council will not only discuss the City's garage sale regulations but also ways to help residents become more aware of them to reduce the amount of violations.

According to the meeting's agenda, frequent violations that occur when residents have garage sales include:

  • "Signs placed in the City’s rights-of-way (ROW)"
  • "More than one sign posted"
  • "Sign exceeds two (2) square feet"
  • "Sales conducted in the front yard"
  • "Garage sales conducted more than two (2) days per calendar year"
