The Dallas Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi Kicks off National Literacy Month with Unique Partnership

In celebration of its 150th year as an international fraternity for women, the Dallas Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi is providing an opportunity for its beneficiary applicants to take part in the organizations’ Read > Lead > Achieve initiatives. Throughout the month of September, members of the Dallas Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi, along with collegiates from SMU’s Pi Beta Phi chapter, will conduct reading hours across Dallas sponsored by Half Price Books. On the calendar: Catch up and Read, Connecting Point of Park Cities, Readers 2 Leaders, and Voice of Hope.

The partnership between the Dallas Alumnae Club and Half Price Books is a result of the international fraternity’s century long commitment to create a more literate and productive society. Throughout the month of September, Pi Beta Phi is dedicated to raising awareness for Read > Lead > Achieve through community activities that support its philanthropic efforts. “We’re excited to align our philanthropic mission with Pi Beta Phi’s literacy initiatives,” says Kathy Doyle Thomas, Pi Beta Phi alum and Chief Strategy Officer of Half Price Books. “This partnership is an extension of our Million Book Donation Project in which we aim to donate over one million books to non-profit organizations and schools each year.”

Members of the Dallas Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi will gather together on Wednesday, September 20th to kick-off a new year under the leadership of the club’s 2017 President, Lisa Reid. The focus of the kick-off meeting will be on furthering Pi Phi’s philanthropic goals as the international fraternity closes out it’s 150th year and looks toward the future.
