Old Blockbuster Building
The currently empty building that used to be the location of Blockbuster at Hillcrest and University will be demolished and a new Chase Bank will be built in its place.
The Chase Bank located at Hillcrest Avenue and Haynie Avenue in University Park will be moving to a new location down the street later this year.
Demolition is expected to begin tomorrow or Thursday on the empty building at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and University Boulevard, which was the former location of Blockbuster, to make way for the new Chase Bank building.
Matthew Cragun, an engineer with O'Donald Engineering who designed the new Chase Bank building, said construction of the new bank will begin after the old Blockbuster building gets fully demolished but was unable to give an exact timeline for the entire project.
"Typically construction takes three to four months," Cragun said.
The new bank location will have two drive-through windows and a drive-through ATM on the backside facing the alley, Cragun said.
Steve Mace, the community information officer for University Park, said O'Donald Engineering was contracted for the project and has been working closely with the city's Community Development department on the site plans.
